AED Electronics recently announced the new version of their RDAS Altimeter. The picture opposite shows the 3 generations of the RDAS, from left to right they are; the Classic, the Compact and the new Tiny.

The new Version 4.0 includes several changes, namely its size, USB capability, 2 extra pyro outputs and the new faster micro processor and memory. The new micro processor and memory are 16 times faster than previous, offering much room for new features and expansion in the future.

As you can see from the new layout and features above, they have made many improvements. The new mini USB connector will make it much easier for those of us with laptops which don't have a serial port and have to use USB to serial adapter cables.

The 2 axis accelerometer expansion board is now as good as obsolete as it is built in to the basic altimeter, unless you need the temperature sensor which is on the expansion board.
